Business Description
We are one of the leading manufacturers of AC Generators with output capacity in the range of 1 MW to 52MW for prime movers such as steam turbines, gas turbines, hydro turbines, wind turbines, diesel and gasengines. We focus on manufacturing custom-designed generators for our customers who are based across theworld. From the inception of our Company and as of December 31, 2010, we have manufactured a total of 1,337generators with an aggregate output capacity of 10,767 MW, of which 207 generators have been supplied tocustomers across 33 countries. As of December 31, 2010, the total value of our order book for manufacturinggenerators was Rs. 3,552.00 million.In addition to manufacturing AC Generators our Company also executes Turbine Generator (“TG”) islandprojects for steam turbine power plants with output capacity up to 52 MW using a Japanese turbine combinedwith our generator. The scope of work of the TG island projects consists of design services, procurement andsupply of equipment, assembly, installation & commissioning. From the inception of our Company and as ofDecember 31, 2010 our Company has completed a total of 87 TG island projects with an aggregate outputcapacity of 1,720 MW which includes projects executed in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Philippines.Our Subsidiary, DF Power Systems Private Limited, is in the business of Engineering, Procurement andConstruction (“EPC”), executing Boiler-Turbine Generator (“BTG”) island projects and the balance of plant(“BOP”) portion for steam turbine power plants with output capacity from 52 MW up to 150 MW (“EPCBusiness”). The scope of work for the EPC Business comprises of design services, procurement and supply ofequipments, assembly and installation & commissioning (excluding civil works). From the inception of ourSubsidiary and as of December 31, 2010 our Subsidiary has completed a total of 2 BTG island projects with anaggregate output capacity of 111.50 MW.Our TG island projects and EPC Business are collectively referred to as our “Power Project Business”.As of December 31, 2010, the total value of our Company’s order book for Projects Business was Rs. 2,177.15million and for EPC Business of the Subsidiary was Rs. 6,985.79 million respectively and the cumulative valueof our order book was Rs. 12,714.94 million.Our customer base primarily comprises companies operating in the industrial sector and includes cement, steel,paper, chemical, metals, sugar co-generation, bio-mass power plants, hydro-electric power plants andIndependent Power Plants (“IPPs”) companies. Some of our customers include Shree Cements Limited,Vasavadatta Cements, Nava Bharat Ventures Limited, Chettinad Cement Corporation Limited and BalrampurChini Mills Limited.We commenced business providing TG project solutions and subsequently, in August 2001, forayed intomanufacturing of generators up to 30 MW under a license from Toyo Denki Seizo K.K. (“Toyo Denki”), aleading manufacturer of power and electric equipments located in Japan. Our Company currently owns thetechnology, which was originally licensed from Toyo Denki, and has further developed in-house capability tomanufacture generators up to 40 MW.Our Company has entered into a Product Development Cooperation and Manufacturing Agreement dated May12, 2009 with Voith Hydro Holding GmbH & Co.KG (“Voith Hydro”) for jointly developing electricgenerators. Under the agreement, the parties are to jointly develop and design electric generators our Companywill manufacture such generators for Voith Hydro Group.
