Business Description
We are an independent, de-mutualized association with permanent recognition from the Government ofIndia to facilitate nationwide online trading, clearing and settlement operations of commodities futurestransactions. The total value of contracts traded on our exchange between April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007was approximately Rs. 22,937,239 million. According to data maintained by the FMC, this amountrepresented approximately 62.38% of the market share of the Indian commodities futures industry in termsof the value of commodities traded in futures markets during that period. During April 1, 2007 to December31, 2007, the total value of contracts traded on our exchange was Rs. 20,584,937 million. This amountrepresented approximately 75.77% of the market share of the Indian commodities futures industry in termsof the value of commodities traded in futures markets during that period. The total value of contracts tradedon all commodities exchanges in India between April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007, and between April 1,2007 and December 31, 2007 were Rs. 36,769,267 million and Rs. 27,169,011 million respectively.(Source: FMC data)We focus on offering futures trading in commodities which are significant in the Indian and global contextand which are traded on international exchanges. As of December 31, 2007, we offered futures trading in 55commodities, defined in terms of contract specification, from various market segments including bullion,energy, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, oils and oil seeds, cereals, pulses, plantations, spices, plastics andfibers. (Different types of contracts with the same underlying physical asset such as Gold, Gold Mini andGold HNI are treated separately as three different commodities for the purpose of computing the totalnumber of commodities). Comparing the trading volumes of our Exchange for the calendar year 2007 withthe top ten commodity derivatives exchanges in the world, we are the largest silver exchange, the secondlargest natural gas exchange, the third largest gold exchange the third largest crude oil exchange and thethird largest copper exchange in terms of the number of contracts traded for each of these commodities forthe period from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007. As per FIAOutlook 08 report, MCX Copper Futures ranked 23rd among Top 25 commodities Futures and Optionscontracts by volume for the period January to December 2007 with growth rate of 278.35% comparing withthe corresponding period January to December 2006.We strive to be at the forefront of developments in the commodities future industry in India. We were thefirst commodity futures exchange in India to offer trading in steel futures, and the first in India to launchfutures trading in crude oil. We were the firstexchange in India to initiate evening sessions to coincide our trading with trading on exchanges in London,New York and other international markets. We have achieved the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification, which is the globalbenchmark of an information security management system. We also launched the carbon credit contracts(ECX CFI Mini) in January 2008
